Pickled cucumber
Description
Pickled cucumber is a small, firm cucumber with a distinct sour-salty flavor and a crunchy texture, often with a light green cross-section and a shiny skin. Depending on the recipe, it is flavored with dill, garlic, mustard, or pepper, which gives it an intense, spicy character. Nutritionally, it is low in calories and rich in water and fiber, providing small amounts of vitamin K, potassium, and B vitamins, but it is important to note the increased sodium content. In fermented versions, it can support gut microflora as a source of probiotics. Pickled cucumber perfectly enhances sandwiches, salads, burgers, sauces, and snacks, and serves as an ingredient in marinades and relish-type sauces. It is best stored in brine, in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator after opening, which maintains its crunchiness and flavor for several weeks; do not freeze, and before use, drain excess salt or vinegar if required by the dish.
