Macadamia nuts
Description
Macadamia nuts have a creamy, buttery flavor with a delicate sweetness and a rich, crunchy texture; they are round on the outside, light cream-colored when cut, previously enclosed in a hard, brown shell. They pair wonderfully in both sweet baked goods and chocolates, as well as in sophisticated savory dishes — they add creaminess to sauces, salad toppings, breading, and nut butters, and taste great roasted as a snack or as a base for macadamia oil. Nutritionally, they are rich in monounsaturated fats, protein, fiber, and minerals such as manganese, magnesium, and copper, as well as antioxidants; regular, moderate consumption may support heart health, lipid profile, and feelings of fullness, keeping in mind their high caloric content. They are best stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place, and for longer shelf life, it is advisable to keep them in the refrigerator or freezer to prevent the fat from going rancid.
