Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce are smoked, dried jalapeños immersed in a thick, red sauce made from tomatoes, vinegar, and spices. They have a smoky, deep flavor with moderate heat and a sweet-and-sour note from the adobo; they resemble wrinkled, dark red seed pieces in an aromatic sauce. Nutritionally, they are low in calories, provide vitamins A and C, and minerals, and the capsaicin content supports metabolism, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. In the kitchen, they work well as a seasoning for marinades, sauces, stews, tacos, soups, and dips, adding depth of flavor and pleasant heat to both Mexican dishes and grilled or baked foods. Once opened, store in the refrigerator in an airtight container, submerged in the sauce, and use within 2–3 weeks or portion and freeze for longer storage.
