Cherry tomatoes
Description
Cherry tomatoes are small, round fruits with a smooth, shiny skin that comes in shades of red, yellow, and orange. They have an intense, sweet-tart flavor with a lot of juice and a delicate, fleshy texture, making them an attractive visual and flavor addition to dishes. They are low in calories, rich in vitamin C, provitamin A (beta-carotene), potassium, fiber, and lycopene—a powerful antioxidant that supports heart health and reduces the risk of certain cancers. They are typically used raw in salads, sandwiches, and bruschettas, as well as roasted, grilled, or stewed for sauces and pasta; they also make a great snack or ingredient for skewers. Tomatoes are best stored at room temperature until fully ripe, and then in a cool place or refrigerator for a few days, arranged in a single layer and avoiding tightly sealed plastic containers to preserve their flavor and texture.
