Tomatoes (ripe, raspberry or cherry)
Description
Raspberry and cherry tomatoes are small, juicy fruits with an intense red or pinkish color, thin skin, and a sweet-tart, aromatic flavor; raspberry tomatoes tend to be slightly meatier and sweeter than classic tomatoes, while cherry tomatoes are characterized by their lightness and pronounced sweetness. Their appearance is appealing with shiny skin and firm flesh filled with juice and seeds, making them look great on a plate. They are low in calories, a source of vitamin C, potassium, vitamin A (beta-carotene), and fiber, as well as lycopene—a powerful antioxidant that supports heart health and reduces the risk of certain cancers. They work well in salads, bruschettas, salsas, sauces, baking, or grilling, and also make a great snack. Store at room temperature, away from sunlight; ripe ones can be briefly chilled to extend their shelf life, but they are best served at room temperature for full flavor; avoid airtight containers and store with the stem side down.
