Rum (optional, for adults)
Description
Rum (optional, for adults) is a distillate typically with an alcohol content of 35–50% ABV, ranging from clear white to golden and dark brown aged rums, with notes of molasses, caramel, vanilla, oak, and spices depending on the aging process. The flavor can be sweet, full, and smooth or sharp and spicy; the aroma often resembles toffee, bananas, dried fruits, or barrel smoke. In the kitchen, rum perfectly enhances desserts (cakes, creams, sauces), macerated fruits, marinades for meats, flambé sauces, and classic cocktails, as well as being an ingredient for deglazing and flavoring homemade liqueurs. Nutritionally, rum primarily provides calories from alcohol and contains few vitamins or minerals; older, dark rums may have trace phenolic compounds. Moderate consumption can bring temporary relaxation, but it is not a way to improve health, and excess alcohol is harmful. It should be stored in a tightly sealed bottle, in a cool, dark place away from heat sources; opened rum retains its quality for many years, but over time it loses some of its fresh aromas.
