Gouda cheese
Description
Gouda cheese is characterized by a mild, slightly buttery flavor with a nutty note and a creamy texture; its color ranges from light yellow to deeper gold, often with a smooth, elastic structure and a thin rind. It is a source of high-quality protein, calcium, B vitamins (including B12), as well as saturated fats and sodium, which provides energy and supports bone health and tissue regeneration, although it should be consumed in moderation due to its calorie content. In the kitchen, gouda is versatile: it melts wonderfully in casseroles, pizzas, and sandwiches, enhances salads, fondue, sauces, and cheese boards. To maintain freshness, store the cheese in the refrigerator wrapped in parchment or wax paper, and then loosely in foil or a container; avoid long freezing and consume within 1–2 weeks after opening.
