Fruit sauce / raspberry coulis
Description
Fruit sauce, known as raspberry coulis, is a smooth, silky puree with an intense ruby color and a distinct sweet-tart raspberry flavor with an aromatic, slightly floral note; coulis is usually strained to remove larger seeds, giving it a glossy consistency and elegant appearance. Nutritionally, it is low in fat and relatively low in calories, providing vitamin C, fiber depending on the degree of straining, and antioxidants like anthocyanins, which support heart health and have anti-inflammatory properties; it is worth monitoring the added sugar content, especially in commercial products. Raspberry coulis pairs wonderfully with desserts such as panna cotta, ice cream, and cheesecakes, enhances yogurts, oatmeal, or smoothies, and can also serve as a sauce for game or duck in modern cuisine. It can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–5 days or portioned in the freezer for about 3 months; before use, thaw slowly in the refrigerator and optionally gently heat.
