Parma ham
Description
Parma ham (prosciutto di Parma) is thinly sliced, aged meat with a salmon-pink color and delicate marbling of fat. It has a subtle, sweet-salty flavor with nutty notes and a velvety, almost melting texture; the aroma is discreet, slightly fruity, and aged. It looks elegant when arranged in thin layers. Nutritional values include a high amount of protein, a moderate amount of fats (including monounsaturated), as well as B vitamins, iron, and zinc, while keeping in mind its relatively high salt content, so it should be consumed in moderation. It pairs perfectly with antipasti, salads, sandwiches, pizza after baking, fruits like melon or figs, and as an addition to a charcuterie board. Store in the refrigerator at a temperature of 0–4°C, preferably wrapped in butcher paper or loosely in foil, and consume slices within 2–3 days; a whole, uncut leg can be kept longer in a cool place.
