Szynka prosciutto crudo
Description
Prosciutto crudo is an Italian dry-cured ham with a delicate, salty, and slightly nutty flavor, as well as a pleasant pink-ruby color with marbled streaks of fat; when sliced very thinly, it has an almost silky texture and an aroma of aging. Nutritionally, it provides concentrated protein and B vitamins, as well as minerals such as iron and zinc, which support metabolism and blood formation, but it also contains relatively high amounts of salt and saturated fats, so it is best consumed in moderation. In the kitchen, prosciutto crudo works well as a gourmet addition to antipasti, salads, pizza after baking, pasta, and pairings with melon, figs, or cheeses; it also pairs excellently as a wrap for asparagus or in sandwiches. Store in the refrigerator at 0–4°C wrapped in parchment paper and foil or vacuum-sealed; consume slices within 2–3 days, while a whole leg can be stored much longer; freezing is not recommended due to loss of texture.
