Strawberries (fresh)
Description
Strawberries (fresh) have an intense, sweet-tart flavor and a strong, aromatic scent; their flesh is juicy, red with small yellowish seeds on the surface, topped with a green stem. They are low in calories, rich in vitamin C, folic acid, fiber, potassium, manganese, and antioxidants (including anthocyanins), which may support the immune system, reduce inflammation, and positively affect heart health and metabolism. In the kitchen, fresh strawberries are suitable for desserts, salads, smoothies, jams, sauces, and baked goods, pairing well with mint, basil, lemon, balsamic vinegar, chocolate, and cheeses. They should be stored unwashed in a single-layer container or on a plate in the refrigerator, away from ethylene-producing fruits, and used within 2–3 days; for longer storage, it is best to wash, dry, hull, and freeze them.
