Preparation steps

Preparing the syrup

1

Prepare simple syrup if you are not using a store-bought one: weigh 100 g of sugar and 100 ml of water, and place them in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring with a wooden spoon until the sugar is completely dissolved and the syrup becomes clear. Do not bring to a rolling boil — a gentle simmer for 1-2 minutes is sufficient. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

Ingredients: Simple syrup (1:1 sugar:water)
Use a small saucepan with a capacity of 1 liter. If you don't have a scale, measure the sugar with a cup (about 200 g for 1:1). Store the syrup in the refrigerator in a jar for up to 2 weeks.

Preparing the cocktail

2

Chill the glasses: place coupe glasses or cups in the freezer for 5-10 minutes or fill them with ice for 3 minutes, then pour it out. Chilled vessels will maintain the cocktail's temperature.

Use coupe glasses or low cocktail glasses. Don't forget to take the glasses out before pouring — too cold glass can crack if you pour hot liquid into it (this isn't mentioned here, but it's worth remembering).
3

Squeeze the juice from the limes: cut 2 limes (140 g total) in half. Use a manual citrus juicer or press, squeezing about 60 ml of juice into a small bowl. Strain through a sieve to remove seeds and larger pieces of pulp.

Ingredients: Lime
Use a manual citrus juicer or a small sieve. Make sure the limes are soft (before squeezing, you can press them a few times with your hands on the countertop to release the juices).
4

Pour into the shaker: 120 ml vodka, 60 ml orange liqueur, 240 ml cranberry juice, 120 ml pomegranate juice, 60 ml freshly squeezed lime juice, and 60 ml simple syrup. Add ice — fill the shaker to about 3/4 full (about 200-250 g of ice).

Ingredients: Vodka, Orange liqueur (triple sec), Unsweetened cranberry juice, Pomegranate juice, Lime, Simple syrup (1:1 sugar:water), Ice
Use a jigger or a measuring pitcher. For a winter party, you can prepare the ingredients in a carafe and measure with one jigger. Add the vodka and liqueur first so that the liquids mix nicely.
5

Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds — until the outside of the shaker becomes very cold and a light mist appears. The goal is to quickly chill and slightly dilute the cocktail.

Ingredients: Ice, Vodka, Orange liqueur (triple sec), Unsweetened cranberry juice, Pomegranate juice, Simple syrup (1:1 sugar:water)
Use a tight Boston or coupe shaker. Hold the shaker with both hands (one on the bottom, the other on the lid) and make vigorous alternating movements. If you're making a larger batch, you can mix in a large pitcher with ice instead of a shaker.
6

Open the shaker and, using a bar strainer (or fine strainer), pour the cocktail into chilled glasses. Pour slowly to maintain clarity and separate the ice from the drink. If desired, you can strain the cocktail through a double strainer for maximum purity.

Ingredients: Ice
Use a Hawthorne strainer or a fine mesh strainer for drinks. Remember not to pour ice into the glasses (unless you are making the on the rocks version).

Serving and Decoration

7

Finishing and decoration: add 10-15 ml of prosecco (optional) to each glass gently, so as not to disturb the foam and keep the bubbles. Add 10 g of pomegranate seeds (optional) to each glass — the seeds will sink to the bottom and create a 'winter ruby' effect. Garnish with a mint leaf (optional). Serve immediately.

Ingredients: Prosecco (for topping, optional), Pomegranate seeds, Fresh mint (for decoration, optional)
If you are serving at a party, fill the prosecco glasses just before handing them to the guests, so the bubbles don't have time to settle. Additionally, you can add lime zest for aroma—be careful not to add too much of the bitter white part of the peel.

Servings and Variants

8

Non-alcoholic variant: replace the vodka and liqueur equally with more pomegranate and cranberry juice and a splash of sparkling water or tonic. Reduce the simple syrup if you don't want a very sweet version.

Ingredients: Unsweetened cranberry juice, Pomegranate juice
When preparing the non-alcoholic version, monitor the sweetness — juices can be sweet, so it's better to add less syrup at first and sweeten to taste if needed.

Fun Fact

💡

The pomegranate was a symbol of fertility and abundance in many ancient cultures, and in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern traditions, its seeds have been used as a decoration for dishes and drinks for thousands of years.

Tips

🍽️ Serving

Serve the cocktail very chilled in coupe glasses or low glasses. If you want an impressive presentation, place a few pomegranate seeds on the surface and add a small sprig of mint. For a cocktail table, prepare a carafe with the base (without prosecco) and a separate bottle of prosecco, so guests can pour the sparkling wine themselves.

🥡 Storage

The cocktail is best prepared just before serving. You can prepare the base (without prosecco) up to 24 hours in advance and store it in an airtight pitcher in the fridge. Do not store the mixed drink with prosecco — it will lose its fizz. Keep the simple syrup in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
