Preparation steps

1

Prepare the tools: a large bowl, a mixing spoon, a kitchen scale or measuring cup, a small knife, and a cutting board, as well as possibly a kettle or microwave to heat the milk. Weigh the ingredients according to the list: 80 g of oats, 200 ml of milk, 1 banana (120 g), and 15 g of honey. Accurate weighing helps achieve a consistent texture.

Ingredients: Oat flakes, Milk, Banana, Honey
Use a bowl with a capacity of at least 500 ml. A kitchen scale is useful, but you can use a measuring cup: 80 g of flakes is about 3/4 cup.
2

Heat the milk: option A – in the microwave: pour 200 ml of milk into a microwave-safe container and heat for 60–90 seconds at 700–800 W, until the milk is steaming and warm (about 60–70°C), but not boiling. Option B – on the stove: heat in a small pot over medium heat, stirring, until the first bubbles appear at the edges (do not let it boil).

Ingredients: Milk, Oat flakes
If you don't want to heat the milk, you can use cold milk and leave the bowl covered for 8–10 minutes (cold method). For heating, use a microwave-safe ceramic dish.
3

Pour 80 g of oats into a large bowl. Do this evenly, shaking the spoon to avoid clumps. If you are using instant oats, the consistency will be softer; rolled oats require a longer soaking time.

Ingredients: Oat flakes
Use a dry spoon and a dry bowl – moist flakes are harder to evenly soak with milk.
4

Pour hot (but not boiling) milk into a bowl with the flakes. Stir vigorously with a spoon for 10–15 seconds to coat all the flakes with milk. Cover the bowl with a plate or lid and set aside for 4–5 minutes until the flakes swell and become creamy. Check the consistency: the flakes should be soft but not soggy.

Ingredients: Oat flakes, Milk
Covering helps retain heat and speeds up the swelling. If you want thinner flakes, add 20–30 ml more milk and stir again.
5

In the meantime, peel the banana and slice it into pieces about 5 mm thick on a cutting board. Alternatively, mash half of the banana with a fork if you want a more banana flavor and creamy texture.

Ingredients: Banana
Use a sharp knife and a stable cutting board. Mashing the banana will make the flakes sweeter without the need to add more honey.
6

Uncover the bowl, if the consistency is ready (soft, creamy), add 15 g of honey and 2 g of cinnamon (if using). Mix with a spoon for 10–20 seconds to evenly distribute the honey. Taste and add a little more honey if you want a sweeter version.

Ingredients: Honey, Cinnamon, Oat flakes
Add honey after heating, as too high temperatures can weaken the aroma of the honey. If you are vegan, substitute honey with maple syrup or agave syrup.
7

Arrange the banana slices on top and sprinkle with 30 g of walnuts. If you like, lightly toast the walnuts in a dry pan for 1–2 minutes over medium heat, until they start to smell and lightly brown (be careful, they can burn quickly). Serve immediately.

Ingredients: Banana
For toasting, use a non-stick pan with a diameter of 20–24 cm and shake it or stir the nuts with a spoon every 20–30 seconds to prevent burning.
8

Serve the flakes in a deep bowl, drizzled with an extra drop of honey. You can also add a spoonful of natural yogurt or kefir to enhance the creaminess. Enjoy!

Ingredients: Honey, Banana, Oat flakes
Use a tablespoon for serving and present it on a wooden tray or a light plate to highlight the color of the banana and honey.

Fun Fact

Tips

🍽️ Serving

Serve in a deep bowl, garnish with banana slices, a few nuts, and a light drizzle of honey. Pair it with a cup of black coffee or green tea. For children, mash the banana into a puree to make it easier to eat.

🥡 Storage

Best consumed immediately. If you prepare a larger portion, store it in the refrigerator in a closed container for up to 24 hours; before serving, add a little milk or heat for 30–60 seconds in the microwave and stir. Store the nuts separately to keep them crunchy.
