Honey
Description
Honey is a thick, shiny substance ranging in color from light golden to amber, often with a delicate floral or herbal aroma; its taste can be sweet, with notes of flowers, caramel, or slightly spicy accents depending on its origin. In terms of composition, it is dominated by natural simple sugars — fructose and glucose — along with small amounts of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support immunity, have anti-inflammatory properties, and exhibit antibacterial effects; honey is also a quick source of energy, but it should be used in moderation due to its high caloric content and sugar levels, and it should not be given to infants due to the risk of botulism. In the kitchen, honey perfectly replaces sugar in beverages, desserts, sauces, and marinades, beautifully glazes meats, enriches cheeses and yogurts, and is suitable for baking and pastries. It should be stored in a sealed container in a dry, cool place away from light; natural crystallization does not indicate spoilage — it can be removed by gently warming in a water bath.
