Powdered sugar
Description
Powdered sugar is a finely ground, white powder with a very sweet taste and silky texture that dissolves easily in the mouth. It usually contains a small amount of starch (e.g., potato or corn) as an anti-caking agent, which gives it a slightly matte finish and prevents clumping. Nutritionally, it is practically pure carbohydrate — about 380–400 kcal per 100 g — without significant vitamins or minerals, so it does not provide any health benefits; excessive consumption contributes to weight gain and tooth decay, so it should be used sparingly. In the kitchen, it is used for dusting cakes and desserts, preparing icings, creams, and meringues, as well as a milder sweetness for drinks and creamy mixtures. Store in an airtight container, in a cool and dry place, away from moisture; if clumps form, sift before use.
