Brown sugar
Description
Brown sugar is a crystalline sweetener ranging in color from light golden to dark brown, with a subtle caramel flavor due to the presence of molasses. It appears as finer or coarser crystals, depending on the degree of refinement, and dissolves easily in liquids, giving dishes a fuller, slightly "buttery" aroma compared to beet sugar. Nutritionally, it is primarily a source of carbohydrates (mainly sucrose), providing about 4 kcal per gram; unrefined brown sugar contains trace amounts of minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and iron, but the health benefits are limited and require moderate consumption due to its impact on glucose levels. In the kitchen, it works excellently in baking, sauces, marinades, beverages, and caramelizing, enhancing the flavor of cakes, coffee, or grilled dishes. It should be stored in a tightly sealed container in a dry, cool place away from light and moisture; if it hardens, it can be easily softened with a piece of apple or a slice of bread in a closed package.
