Grated Parmesan (optional)

Description

Grated Parmesan, a classic Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese in the form of fine shavings, has a hard, grainy texture and a light white to straw color. Its flavor is intensely umami, nutty, and slightly salty, which adds depth and a finishing aroma to dishes. As an optional addition, it works well as a topping or an ingredient in sauces. Nutritionally, Parmesan is a concentrated source of protein, calcium, phosphorus, and B vitamins, with aged cheese having low lactose content. It can support bone health and provide valuable protein, but due to its salt and fat content, it should be used in moderation. Parmesan pairs perfectly with pasta, risotto, soups, salads, casseroles, and eggs, as well as for breading or fondue. Store it in the refrigerator wrapped in parchment paper and loosely in foil or in an airtight container, and keep grated cheese dry and use it within a few weeks; for longer storage, it can be frozen.
