Sea salt flakes
Description
Sea salt flakes are crunchy, flat crystals with a light white or slightly pearlescent color and a delicate, crispy texture that deliver a brief, intense burst of ocean saltiness without a metallic aftertaste when they come into contact with the tongue. Nutritionally, they are practically pure sodium chloride with very low caloric content; they may contain trace amounts of minerals such as magnesium, calcium, or potassium, but do not provide significant nutritional value. The main benefit is culinary: their aromatic finish allows for a pronounced flavor with a smaller volume of salt, but it is important to remember to limit sodium intake for health reasons. The flakes are excellent as a finishing salt for steaks, roasted vegetables, salads, seafood, chocolate, and caramel, enhancing textures and flavor contrasts. They should be stored in an airtight, moisture-proof container, away from sources of steam and heat; avoid contact with metal and moisture to maintain the crispness of the crystals.
