Diced tomatoes
Description
Diced tomatoes are pieces of flesh with small seeds and a thin skin, usually with an intense red color and a fresh, sweet-and-sour taste with a hint of umami. They are low in calories and rich in vitamins C, A, and K, folic acid, and potassium; they contain lycopene—a powerful antioxidant linked to cardiovascular protection, reduction of inflammation, and support for skin and eye health. Diced tomatoes are perfect for sauces, soups, stews, chili, salsas, pasta dishes, and casseroles, adding moisture, acidity, and depth of flavor. Store canned diced tomatoes in a dry, cool place; after opening, transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate, using within 3–4 days. Keep fresh diced tomatoes in the fridge for up to 2–3 days or store ripe ones at room temperature before use.
