Gingerbread spice
Description
Gingerbread spice is an aromatic, finely ground blend with a warm, sweet-spicy flavor profile, featuring distinct notes of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice; it ranges in color from light brown to deep brown and has an intense, pleasantly warming aroma. It is relatively low in calories, providing small amounts of minerals and bioactive compounds, and the spices it contains have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and support digestion and glucose metabolism in a moderate way. It is most commonly used in gingerbread, cookies, cakes, desserts, mulled wine, oatmeal, and creams, but it also wonderfully enhances marinades, meat sauces, and roasted vegetables, adding a cozy, spiced depth. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from moisture and strong odors; for best aroma, use within 6–12 months, and whole spices retain their flavor longer.
