Cheese (slices, e.g. gouda)
Description
Sliced yellow cheese, such as gouda, has a smooth, light yellow color and a uniform texture; the flavor is mild, creamy with a subtle nutty note and moderate saltiness, it melts easily and has a pleasant stretch. It looks aesthetically pleasing on sandwiches and snacks, which is why it is often chosen for quick meals. It is a good source of protein, calcium, phosphorus, and B vitamins, especially B12, as well as vitamin A; it supports bone health and muscle recovery, but it contains a significant amount of saturated fats and sodium, so it is advisable to consume it in moderation. It pairs perfectly with sandwiches, burgers, casseroles, omelets, toasts, and gratin dishes, as well as being a great snack with fruits and wine; it melts wonderfully in dishes that require a creamy consistency. Store in the refrigerator, wrapped in baking paper or aluminum foil and in an airtight container, and use within a few days after opening; it can be frozen in slices, although the texture may change.
