Orange zest (for decoration)
Description
Orange peel is a thin, aromatic layer with an intense, fresh citrus scent and a vibrant orange color; the outer part (the peel) provides a strong, sweet-sour aroma, while the white part (albedo) can be bitter, so thin strips or spirals are used for decoration. It contains few calories, some fiber, vitamin C, as well as phytochemicals and essential oils (mainly limonene) with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that support digestion and immunity. In the kitchen, it works well as a decoration and flavoring agent — for cocktails, desserts, cakes, salads, and meat dishes, as well as in candied or dried form. It is best stored briefly in the refrigerator in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap, and for longer storage, it can be frozen or dried; use it as fresh as possible to preserve the aromatic oils.
