Sea salt
Description
Sea salt is a crystalline, often flaky or coarse salt with a white to slightly gray color and a clean, mildly salty taste with a pleasant crunch in its coarse form. Depending on the source, it may contain minor mineral impurities that give subtle shades and aromas. Nutritionally, sea salt is primarily sodium chloride with small amounts of magnesium, potassium, and calcium; it provides electrolytes essential for fluid balance and neuromuscular functions, but it should be used in moderation due to the risk of excessive sodium intake. In the kitchen, it works well as a finishing salt for meats, fish, salads, vegetables, and chocolate desserts, as well as in marinades and curing, enhancing the natural flavors of dishes. It should be stored in an airtight, dry container, away from moisture and direct light, to maintain its structure and freshness.
