Description
Fresh mint has an intense, refreshing, slightly cooling flavor due to its menthol content, and bright green, serrated leaves with delicate stems that add freshness and aesthetics to dishes; often used optionally as a garnish, it gives plates and drinks an aromatic touch. It pairs well with both desserts and fruits, as well as drinks (cocktails, teas, lemonades), salads, yogurt sauces, lamb dishes, Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, and with chocolate and cheeses. Nutritionally, mint is low in calories, a source of vitamin A, vitamin C, antioxidants, and small amounts of minerals; it aids digestion, alleviates nausea, and refreshes breath, as well as having anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. To keep it fresh, do not wash the leaves before storing, wrap them in a lightly damp paper towel, and keep them in the refrigerator, or place a bunch in a glass of water loosely covered with plastic wrap; the leaves can also be frozen in ice cubes for longer storage.
