Fresh cranberry
Description
Fresh cranberries are small, shiny fruits with an intense red color, a tough skin, and a firm texture. Their flavor is dominated by a distinct acidity with a hint of bitter-resinous notes and a slight astringency, which perfectly balances sweet additions. The flesh also has subtle citrus aromas. Nutritionally, cranberries are low in calories, rich in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, including proanthocyanidins, which may support urinary tract health and have anti-inflammatory effects. The fruits also provide small amounts of minerals, and their regular consumption as part of a balanced diet supports metabolic profile. In the kitchen, fresh cranberries are suitable for meat sauces, chutneys, desserts, smoothies, and salads, as well as for baking and preserves. Store them in the refrigerator in a breathable container and do not wash before storing; use within 1–2 weeks or freeze in portions, which will extend their shelf life to several months.
