Description
Canned ham is processed pork meat with a uniform, pinkish color and smooth texture, usually sold in chunks or slices; the taste is mildly meaty, salty-smoked, sometimes slightly spicy depending on the spices and curing salt used. Due to its compact consistency and stability, it is convenient to use as a quick addition to meals. It is a good source of complete protein as well as B vitamins, iron, and zinc, but it also contains significant amounts of salt, fat, and often preservatives, so it is advisable to consume it in moderation. Canned ham is suitable for sandwiches, salads, casseroles, fillings, and one-pot dishes. Once opened, store in the refrigerator in an airtight container and consume within 3–5 days; keep the unopened can in a cool, dry place, it can be frozen, although the texture may change.
