Dried cranberries
Description
Dried cranberries have an intense, sweet-tart flavor with a distinct, slightly astringent note and a flexible, slightly chewy texture; their appearance is dark red, shiny fruits often lightly preserved with sugar. They are a source of fiber, antioxidants (including proanthocyanidins), vitamins, and minerals, although some vitamin C is reduced during drying, so it's best to consume them in moderation due to the added sugar; regular, moderate consumption may support urinary and cardiovascular health. In the kitchen, dried cranberries pair well with salads, cereals, muesli, baked goods, fillings, and sauces for meats, as well as with cheeses and nuts as part of snacks. Store them in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place, and for longer freshness, keep them in the refrigerator and avoid moisture.
