Fresh or frozen cranberries
Description
Fresh or frozen cranberries are small, light to deep red fruits with a firm skin and a characteristic, intensely sour-tart flavor that softens after cooking. They are low in calories, rich in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants, especially proanthocyanidins, which support urinary tract health and have potential anti-inflammatory properties, as well as positively affecting lipid profiles and gut microbiota. In the kitchen, cranberries are suitable for both sweet and savory dishes: they work great in sauces for meats (especially poultry and game), compotes, jams, baked goods, smoothies, and salads, where they balance rich flavors. Store fresh cranberries in the refrigerator in a breathable container for about 2–3 weeks, and frozen ones in an airtight package for up to a year; frozen fruits can often be added to dishes straight from the freezer without thawing.
