Start by preparing the fruits. Place the fresh cranberries in a sieve and rinse thoroughly under cold running water. Discard any damaged or soft fruits. Next, prepare the orange. Use a vegetable brush and warm water to scrub it thoroughly. Then pour boiling water over it for about 30 seconds to remove the wax coating and impurities. Dry it with a paper towel.

Preparation steps
After preparing the orange, cut it in half. Slice one half into thin slices about 3-4 mm thick. Squeeze the juice from the other half directly into a small bowl, removing the seeds. If you are using optional ginger, peel it with a small spoon (scraping is easier than peeling with a knife) and slice it thinly.
Choose a large pot with a thick bottom (with a capacity of at least 2 liters). Pour the entire liter of cloudy apple juice into it. Add the rinsed cranberries, orange slices, and the juice squeezed from the orange. Toss in the spices: two cinnamon sticks, two star anise, and about 8 whole cloves. If using, also add the ginger slices.
Place a pot on the stove over medium heat. Slowly heat the mixture until it starts to gently steam and small bubbles appear at the edges. When the drink is close to boiling, immediately reduce the burner to the lowest setting. Cook on very low heat for 15-20 minutes. Do not let it boil vigorously. During this time, the cranberries will soften, some of the fruits will burst, releasing juice and color, and the spices will release their aroma.
After 15-20 minutes, remove the pot from the heat. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes to cool slightly. Now is the perfect time to add the honey. Pour in 3 tablespoons of honey and stir thoroughly with a large spoon until it completely dissolves. Taste the drink, and if you prefer a sweeter flavor, add another tablespoon of honey.
Prepare heatproof mugs or glasses. Using a ladle, strain the mulled wine through a fine sieve to separate the fruits and spices. Pour the hot drink into the prepared containers. If you like, you can garnish each serving with a fresh slice of apple. Serve immediately while it's hot and most aromatic.
Fun Fact
The tradition of drinking mulled, spiced beverages dates back to ancient Rome. The Romans heated wine with spices to warm up during cold conquests in Europe. This custom spread across the continent, and each culture created its own version. Non-alcoholic mulled wine is a modern adaptation of this tradition, allowing the whole family to enjoy it.

Tips
Serve the mulled wine in tall heatproof glasses with handles to beautifully showcase its ruby color. You can add a fresh cinnamon stick to each serving as a stirrer. For adults, you can add 30-50 ml of rum, brandy, or orange liqueur to individual servings to create an alcoholic version.
The leftover mulled wine can be stored in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed pitcher or jar for up to 3 days. Before serving, gently reheat it over low heat, without bringing it to a boil. The flavor of the drink will become even deeper and more intense after storage.
