Description

A simple, fresh dessert based on cottage cheese and seasonal strawberry jam – a classic of Polish homes, served with a light twist: cream for a velvety consistency and optional honey or powdered sugar to adjust sweetness. The dish is quick, colorful, and impressive: the white cottage cheese contrasts with the red jam, and the green mint adds a fresh touch. Perfect as a light dessert after lunch, for an afternoon snack, or as a white spot at breakfast. Easy to prepare even for a beginner cook, it requires no baking or special machines.

Preparation steps

1

Prepare your workspace: take the cottage cheese and sour cream out of the fridge for 5–10 minutes so they are not cold (this will make mixing easier). Weigh the ingredients on a kitchen scale: 400 g cottage cheese, 100 g sour cream, 200 g jam. Arrange four glasses or bowls for serving.

Ingredients: Cottage cheese, 18% cream, Strawberry jam
Use a kitchen scale, 4 low dessert glasses or small bowls (about 200–250 ml). If you don't have a scale, use a tablespoon: 1 tablespoon ≈ 15 g.
2

Transfer the cottage cheese to a large bowl. If the cottage cheese has lumps, break it up with a fork: press and mash for 3–4 minutes until it is relatively smooth. If you prefer a very smooth consistency, use an immersion blender and blend briefly for 10–15 seconds in pulses to avoid overheating the cottage cheese.

Ingredients: Cottage cheese
Use a large bowl and a fork for manual mashing. If you are using a blender, hold it vertically and blend briefly to avoid making a completely liquid mixture.
3

Add 100 g of 18% cream to the cottage cheese gradually: pour in with a spoon, mixing after each spoonful. Mix with a wooden spoon or spatula for 1–2 minutes until the mixture becomes smooth, fluffy, and easy to spread. The mixture should not be watery — if it is too runny, add more cottage cheese; if it is too thick, add literally 1–2 more tablespoons of cream.

Ingredients: Cottage cheese, 18% cream
Use a wooden spoon or silicone spatula. Stir vigorously in the center of the bowl, scraping the edges every few seconds.
4

Taste the mixture and decide on the sweetness. If you want to sweeten it, add 20 g of powdered sugar or 40 g of honey. Add gradually: spread the sweetener with teaspoons and mix after each portion. The mixture should be slightly sweet, but not overpowering compared to the jam.

Ingredients: Powdered sugar, Honey
If you are using honey, first mix it with a small amount of cream or heat it briefly (5–7 s) in the microwave to make it more fluid, so it combines better.
5

Layering: place an equal portion of the cheese mixture (about 100 g) at the bottom of each glass. Gently place 50 g of strawberry jam on top of the mixture, spreading it with a spoon to create a clear layer. Repeat the layer (optional) to create two thin layers of cheese and jam, or leave one layer according to your preference.

Ingredients: Cottage cheese, Strawberry jam
Use a tablespoon or a small spatula for spreading. If you want a nice layered effect, use a teaspoon to gently apply the jam close to the edge of the glass.
6

Decoration and serving: place a small teaspoon of jam on top of the dessert as a garnish, add a sprig of fresh mint (chopped mint can be sprinkled on top). Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes before serving for a firmer consistency.

Ingredients: Strawberry jam, mint
Use fresh mint leaves. You can also add a sprinkle of bran or toasted almonds for crunch (optional).
7

Quick check and serving: make sure the rims of the glasses are clean — wipe them with a clean cloth. Serve the dessert chilled or at room temperature, depending on your preference.

Ingredients: Cottage cheese, Strawberry jam
Use a paper towel to clean the edges of the dish for an aesthetic presentation. If serving to guests, place a teaspoon next to each portion.

Fun Fact

💡

Cottage cheese is one of the oldest dairy products in Poland, present in regional kitchens as a base for sweet and savory dishes. Combining cottage cheese with fruits is a tradition, and strawberry jam adds a seasonal, summery character to it.

Tips

🍽️ Serving

Serve in clear glasses to showcase the layers. Add a thin slice of lemon on the side of the plate so guests can add a bit of acidity. Green tea or a light coffee with milk pairs well with the dessert.

🥡 Storage

Store in the refrigerator covered with plastic wrap or in a container for up to 24 hours. The jam may hydrate the mixture with longer storage — gently mix before serving. Do not freeze (the texture of the cheese changes after thawing).
