Vanilla sugar
Description
Vanilla sugar is an aromatic mixture of fine sugar and vanilla essence or powder, usually light beige in color with small dark specks of real vanilla. The taste is sweet, with a distinct warm note of vanillin and an intense aroma that enhances sweet and creamy compositions. It resembles regular granulated sugar or powdered sugar with visible vanilla specks. Nutritionally, vanilla sugar is primarily sucrose — providing about 400 kcal per 100 g, almost entirely from carbohydrates, with minimal amounts of protein and fat, and no significant vitamins or fiber. Vanilla contributes small amounts of aromatic compounds with antioxidant properties that enhance the sensory qualities of dishes, so it is advisable to use it sparingly to limit sugar intake. It works well in desserts, baked goods, creams, pancakes, yogurts, and beverages, adding depth of flavor to cakes, creams, and fruits. It should be stored in a sealed, dry, and cool place, away from light and moisture, to prevent clumping and maintain its intense aroma; a piece of vanilla pod can be added to refresh the scent.
