Ghee (clarified butter)
Description
Ghee (clarified butter) is a golden, clear fat with a delicate, slightly nutty aroma and a smooth, almost creamy consistency at room temperature. Its flavor is more intense than regular butter, with a hint of caramel, making it a versatile addition to both savory and sweet dishes. In the kitchen, ghee is excellent for frying at high temperatures due to its high smoke point, enhances sauces, curries, bread, and adds depth to soups and roasts. Nutritionally, ghee is a concentrated source of saturated and monounsaturated fats as well as fat-soluble vitamins, including A, E, and K2; in moderate amounts, it can support nutrient absorption. It is almost free of lactose and milk proteins, which can be tolerated by sensitive individuals. It should be stored in an airtight container away from light and moisture; at room temperature, it stays fresh for several weeks, and longer in the refrigerator.
