Dried marjoram
Description
Dried marjoram is a delicate, greenish-gray spice with a warm, slightly sweet, mildly spicy, and herbal aroma with a hint of pine; in its dried form, the leaves are small, crumbly, and enhance the flavor of dishes. Nutritionally, marjoram is low in calories, providing small amounts of vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals such as iron and calcium, while the antioxidants and essential oils it contains support digestion and have mild anti-inflammatory effects. In the kitchen, marjoram pairs well with soups, stews, meat dishes (especially pork and game), sauces, bean and vegetable dishes, as well as marinades and baking; it complements garlic, thyme, rosemary, and bay leaves. Store dried marjoram in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry, and dark place away from moisture and heat; with proper storage, it retains its aroma for about 6–12 months.
