Description

Ground nutmeg is a fine, beige-brown powder with a warm, intense aroma that combines sweet-nutty, slightly spicy, and balsamic notes. The flavor is pronounced, gently spicy, and sweet at the same time, so just a pinch is enough to add depth to a dish. Nutritionally, it is present in trace amounts, providing antioxidants and minerals such as manganese and copper; it is traditionally used as an aid for digestion and has anti-inflammatory properties. However, it should be used sparingly, as large doses can be toxic (due to myristicin).
