Coconut milk
Description
Coconut milk is a creamy, slightly sweet liquid with a white color and a smooth, sometimes slightly oily consistency; its density depends on the ratio of pulp to water, and it often separates into cream and water after standing. It is a plant-based, lactose-free alternative to cow's milk, rich in saturated fats, mainly medium-chain fatty acids (including lauric acid), caloric, and also provides minerals such as manganese and copper, as well as small amounts of protein. It can help support a feeling of fullness, provide quick energy, and assist in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, but it is advisable to use it in moderation due to its caloric content. In the kitchen, it works perfectly in curries, soups, sauces, smoothies, desserts, and baked goods, giving dishes an exotic, slightly nutty note. Proper storage is essential: an unopened package should be kept in a dry, cool place, while an opened one should be stored in the refrigerator (2–4°C) and used within 3–7 days; the cream can be mixed or blended, and freezing is possible, but it affects the texture.
