Black peppercorns
Description
Black peppercorns are dried, wrinkled balls with a dark color and a strong, peppery aroma with warm, slightly citrusy and woody notes. When ground, they release an intense spiciness and characteristic heat that enhances the flavor of dishes without overpowering their taste profile. They contain piperine, compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that aid digestion and increase the absorption of certain ingredients, such as curcumin. Typically used as a universal spice for meats, soups, sauces, salads, eggs, and marinades, as well as a finishing spice. For best freshness, store the whole peppercorns in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry, and dark place; grind them just before use, as whole peppercorns retain their aroma much longer than ground pepper.
