Canned diced tomatoes

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Canned diced tomatoes have an intense, sweet-and-sour flavor and a juicy, meaty texture with visible pieces of skin and pulp, usually in a vibrant red color. They are low in calories, rich in vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and lycopene—a powerful antioxidant linked to a reduced risk of heart disease and certain cancers; they support digestion and provide valuable micronutrients without added fat. They are incredibly versatile in the kitchen: they work perfectly as a base for sauces, soups, stews, chili, one-pot dishes, shakshuka, or pasta and pizza sauce, as well as an ingredient in salsa or braised vegetables. They should be stored in a cool, dry place before opening; after opening, it is best to transfer them to a glass or plastic container, cover, and keep in the refrigerator for 3–4 days or portion and freeze for about 3 months.
