Grated orange zest
Description
Grated orange zest consists of small, intensely orange shavings with a fresh, citrus aroma and a distinct hint of sweetness, along with a subtle bitterness that comes from the white albedo layer when poorly grated. It looks impressive as a colorful accent in dishes and releases essential oils with every touch, adding flavor without extra moisture. Nutritionally, it contains small amounts of vitamin C, fiber, flavonoids, and limonene oil with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which contribute to supporting immunity and digestion, although it is used in small portions. Zest pairs well with baked goods, desserts, cocktails, marinades, dressings, fish and poultry dishes, as well as chocolate and cheeses. It should be stored in an airtight container, away from light and moisture; fresh zest is best kept in the refrigerator for a few days or can be frozen or dried for longer storage.
