Orange zest (optional)

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Orange zest has an intense, fresh, citrus aroma with a delicate, slightly bitter note and a vibrant orange color; it is used finely grated or in thin strips, avoiding the white, bitter part (albedo). It is a concentrated source of essential oils, primarily limonene, which add boldness to dishes without adding excessive acidity. In small amounts, it provides vitamin C, fiber, and flavonoids with antioxidant properties that support digestion and immunity. It pairs wonderfully with baked goods, desserts, meat dishes, salads, marinades, sauces, cocktails, and chocolate, as well as for making jams, infusions, or candying. Store fresh zest in the refrigerator in an airtight container or wrapped in foil; you can also freeze grated zest in portions or dry/candy it for longer storage.
