Table salt
Description
Table salt is a fine-grained crystal with a light white color and a distinct, intensely salty taste that enhances and brings out other flavors in dishes. Depending on the type, it can be found in fine, coarse, or flake forms; iodized versions additionally provide a trace element essential for the thyroid. This ingredient is mainly sodium chloride, with no energy value, but it is essential for electrolyte balance, nerve conduction, and muscle functions. It should be used in moderation, as excess sodium increases the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. In the kitchen, salt is suitable for seasoning soups, sauces, meats, vegetables, bread, pickling, and finishing dishes. It should be stored in an airtight, dry container, away from moisture and strong odors, in a cool place.
