Fresh herbs (thyme or parsley) - optional
Description
Fresh herbs, such as thyme and parsley, have different but complementary flavor profiles: thyme features an earthy-salty, slightly spicy aroma and small, stiff leaves on thin stems, while parsley provides a fresh, green, slightly peppery taste and full, bright green leaves. Both herbs are low in calories, rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as antioxidants, and they also provide small amounts of iron and folic acid, supporting immunity, circulation, and digestion. In the kitchen, they work well as additions to soups, sauces, salads, marinades, fish dishes, and roasted vegetables; thyme pairs well with braised meats and aromatic sauces, while parsley is perfect for garnishing and fresh dishes. Store the herbs wrapped in a damp paper towel in the fridge or in a glass of water like a bouquet, and for longer storage, freeze chopped herbs in oil or ice cubes.
