Description

The 'Winter Delight' cocktail is a refreshing, slightly fruity alcoholic drink with a winter-holiday character — a combination of vodka and orange liqueur with the intense flavor of cranberry juice, apple juice, and pomegranate syrup. Perfect for New Year's Eve 2025 and other winter parties: it has a beautiful red color, a subtle tartness from lemon, and a fresh hint of mint. Served in cocktail glasses or over ice, it pairs wonderfully with light snacks — cheeses, nuts, and tartines. Aesthetically decorated with pomegranate seeds and a sprig of mint, it catches the eye and creates a festive atmosphere.

Preparation steps

Preparation of ingredients

1

Prepare all the ingredients and tools: measure the vodka, liqueur, juices, and syrup in measuring cups. Place the cocktail glasses (coupe glasses or Martini glasses) in the freezer for 10 minutes or fill them with ice to chill. Take the fresh mint and pomegranate seeds out of the fridge.

Use a jigger for precise measuring. To chill the glasses, you can place them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes or fill them with ice for 5 minutes. Tools: cocktail shaker, jigger, bar strainer, bar spoon.

Preparation of flavors

2

In a small bowl, mix the pomegranate syrup with the lemon juice — this will help evenly distribute the sweetness in the cocktail. Taste the mixture; it should be distinctly sweet and sour. If the syrup is very sweet, add a little apple juice (about 10 ml) to balance the flavor.

Ingredients: Pomegranate syrup (grenadine), Freshly squeezed lemon juice, Apple juice
Use a teaspoon to mix and a small transparent bowl to check the color and intensity of the flavor. A common mistake: adding too much syrup — it's better to add gradually and taste.

Mixing the cocktail

3

Pour the juices into the shaker first: cranberry juice (400 ml) and apple juice (200 ml), then add the prepared mixture of pomegranate syrup with lemon (60 ml syrup + 40 ml lemon prepared earlier). Add vodka (120 ml) and orange liqueur (60 ml). Fill the shaker with about 2/3 of the prepared ice (about 250 g of ice). Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds — the goal is to chill the cocktail strongly and slightly dilute it. After this time, the surface of the shaker should be very cold and covered with a thin layer of frost.

Ingredients: Apple juice, Pomegranate syrup (grenadine), Freshly squeezed lemon juice, Vodka, Orange liqueur (e.g. triple sec/cointreau), Ice (cubes)
Use a Boston metal shaker or a three-piece shaker with a lid. The best technique: hold the shaker with both hands (one hand on top, the other below) and shake rhythmically for 12-15 seconds; shaking for a shorter time won't achieve the right chill, and shaking for longer will dilute the cocktail too much. Check: the shaker should feel cold to the touch and be slightly frosted from the chill.

Serving

4

Take the glasses out of the freezer or empty them of ice if you chilled them earlier. If you are serving the cocktail 'neat' (without ice in the glass), use a bar strainer and strain the cocktail from the shaker into 4 chilled glasses. If you prefer to serve it on ice, fill 4 highball glasses with fresh ice (about 50 g of ice per glass) and strain the cocktail over the ice.

Ingredients: Ice (cubes)
If you have a fine strainer on hand, use it to catch any small particles of juice/pulp. Tools: cocktail strainer, bar spoon. Common mistake: pouring without straining can add ice shards and dilute the cocktail.

Optional frothing

5

If you want to add a light mousse, pour 50 ml of chilled sparkling water into each glass/serving just before serving. Gently pour with a bar spoon to preserve the bubbles.

Ingredients: Sparkling water
This step is optional. The sparkling water should be very cold (around 4°C). If you don't want to dilute the flavor, skip the sparkling water.

Decoration

6

Garnish each serving with a few pomegranate seeds (about 10-12 seeds per glass) and a sprig of fresh mint. You can gently sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the cocktail or arrange them along the rim of the glass. Lightly tear the mint with your fingers before adding it — this will release the aromatic oils.

Ingredients: Pomegranate seeds (for decoration), Fresh mint (sprigs for decoration)
Use a small teaspoon or tweezers to precisely arrange the pomegranate seeds. Do not crush the mint leaves in your hands — instead, gently tear them to release the aroma. Additionally, you can add pomegranate seeds to enhance the flavor/texture.

Final tips and cleaning

7

Serve the cocktails immediately after preparation — preferably chilled. After serving, rinse the shaker and strainer with warm water and dry them. If you plan to prepare a larger quantity in advance, store the base mixture (without ice and vodka) in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours and add the alcohol and ice just before serving.

Do not leave the alcohol mixture in the fridge for too long — the taste may change. Tools: bottle brush, warm water. Common mistake: preparing and chilling the cocktail many hours before serving — the citrus aromas and bubbles (if using) will lose their freshness.

Fun Fact

💡

Pomegranate has symbolized abundance and festivities in many cultures for centuries; pomegranate seeds in cocktails add not only flavor but also rich symbolism — hence their popularity in winter and New Year's drinks.

Tips

🍽️ Serving

Serve in chilled coupe glasses or over ice in highball glasses. Accompany with small salty snacks (nuts, cheeses) and antipasti boards. If you want a non-alcoholic version, omit the vodka and liqueur, replacing them with an additional 150 ml of apple juice and 50 ml of sparkling water.

🥡 Storage

The prepared mixture (without ice) can be stored in a closed pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. After adding ice and carbonation, the drink is best consumed immediately. Leftovers with alcohol should not be stored for longer than 24-48 hours.
