Beef broth
Description
Beef broth is an essential, meaty liquid with a deep, umami flavor and a golden-brown color; it can be clear or slightly gelatinous when cooled, indicating the presence of collagen. From a nutritional standpoint, it provides collagen-derived proteins, electrolytes, and minerals such as iron and potassium; when defatted, it is relatively low in calories and can support hydration, joint recovery, and digestive health due to its glycine and collagen content. In the kitchen, it serves as a versatile base — perfect for soups, sauces, risottos, braises, and deglazing pans, enhancing the flavor of meat and vegetable dishes. It should be stored chilled in a tightly sealed container for up to 3–4 days in the refrigerator or frozen in portions for up to 3 months; before longer storage, it is advisable to separate the fat layer, label with the date, and thaw slowly in the refrigerator.
