Feta cheese
Description
Feta cheese is a white, crumbly cheese with a distinct, slightly salty and tangy flavor, usually sold in pieces or cubes submerged in brine. The texture can be crumbly and grainy, although versions made with goat or cow's milk are somewhat creamier; the characteristic aroma comes from traditional production using sheep's milk or a blend of sheep and goat milk. Feta provides protein, calcium, and B vitamins, supporting bone health and metabolic functions, but it is worth noting its relatively high fat and salt content. In the kitchen, it pairs well with salads (e.g., Greek salad), roasted vegetables, pasta dishes, casseroles, and pie fillings, as well as being a great addition to bread and omelets, enhancing the flavor of dishes. It should be stored in the refrigerator, preferably in its original brine or in a container with salted water, which extends freshness for about 2–3 weeks; if brine is not available, wrap it in paper and seal tightly, and freezing is possible but changes the cheese's texture.
