Famous Swedish meatballs - small meatballs in a creamy sauce. A mix of pork and beef with a hint of nutmeg, served with a brown roux sauce, lingonberries, and mashed potatoes. A dish known from IKEA, but true homemade köttbullar are in a completely different league. Tender, aromatic, and irresistibly delicious - the taste of Scandinavian warmth.

Soak the breadcrumbs in milk for 10 minutes.

Finely chop the onion, sauté until soft, then let it cool.

Mix the meats with the egg, soaked bread, onion, and nutmeg.

We form small balls (about 3cm in diameter).

It is best to serve the meatballs warm, on a white plate, to highlight their colors. They can be garnished with fresh herbs, such as parsley. An ideal side dish would be mashed potatoes and cranberry jam served in a small jar on the side.

Leftover meatballs are best stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where they will stay fresh for 3-4 days. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat them in a pan over low heat to maintain their tenderness.
